Toll roads in the United States made easy with TollPass
Imagine this: you're driving on a highway and see a toll booth in the distance. You quickly start searching for cash or your debit card, but how much does this toll road actually cost? Toll roads can cause quite a bit of stress, and Alamo.nl is happy to change that. With TollPass, toll roads in the United States become easy and hassle-free.
Why use TollPass?
When you rent a car in the United States with Alamo.nl, you can use TollPass. Due in part to COVID-19, more and more toll roads in the United States are unmanned, meaning you can only pay electronically. In these cases, TollPass is often the only option. It's an automatic payment method, so you don't have to queue and can continue your journey without stopping.
How does it work?
During your road trip in the USA, you'll likely use one of the many toll roads. When you arrive at a toll station, a photo is taken of the vehicle's license plate. The payment is then processed electronically. By using the designated lane, you are automatically enrolled in the TollPass service.
How do you pay for this service?
When you use the TollPass service, two types of charges apply:
- TollPass service fee: This costs approximately USD 3.95–4.95 per day, with a maximum of USD 19.75–24.75 for 30 days. If you do not use a toll road on a particular day, no TollPass service fee will be charged.
- Toll charges: The actual toll costs incurred during your rental period.
These toll charges can be paid in two ways:
- Via a TollPass device, with payment processed afterward
- Via automatic billing, where the amount is charged directly to your credit card
Four to six weeks after your rental period, the total amount will appear on the credit card used for your booking.
Want to avoid TollPass costs?
One option is to queue and pay cash (where possible). You can also use your own transponder or other toll pass providers. Another alternative is to avoid toll roads altogether, although this is not always possible.
