With this option you pay locally when picking up the car in the local currency, allowing you to benefit from favorable exchange rates. After the United States, this has also been possible in Canada. Furthermore, Alamo.nl now allows you to cross the border between Canada and the USA in both directions with all vehicle categories.

Price advantage

Paying locally offers several advantages. For example, you do not have to pay the rental price in full or in part months in advance. This also provides additional security: you avoid the risk of losing money on services not delivered. In addition, many car rental companies that offer rates in euros include a margin for exchange rate fluctuations. By paying locally in the local currency, you avoid this disadvantage.

Form Canada to the United States by rental car

Alamo.nl receives many questions about the possibility of crossing the border between Canada and the United States with a rental car. However, certain conditions apply. You must pick up and return the car at a location near the border. Renting a car in Vancouver and returning it in Seattle is no problem. However, if you want to drive from Vancouver to, for example, Dallas, you will first need to make a stop in Seattle to exchange the car. You should also take so-called drop-off fees into account. Incidentally, it is not necessary to apply for an ESTA authorization in advance when entering the United States by land from Canada. You will, however, need to complete a form at the border. Alamo.nl's tip: for a combined road trip through the United States and Canada, consider picking up your car in Seattle instead of Vancouver, as this is generally more cost-effective.
